Most people think of pv mounting panels

Most people think of pv mounting panels for homes and buildings, and the simplest mounting is accomplished by using surface mounting tabs. Kits can be purchased for this job, but there is no magic to it, and even kit parts may need to be modified, so the do-it-yourselfer will be content to just search the local hardware store for appropriate mounting parts. If this is your plan, then you may want to find your mounting hardware before building the solar panel so you can incorporate the mounting hardware into your design. For surface mounting on the roof it's important to screw the mounts right into the rafters for a solid hold against harsh weather, and the panels need ventilation between roof and panel. For a more extensive project solar panels can be found that look like sky lights and actually mount recessed into the roof.

For a larger array or if the panels need to be mounted remotely from the building to see the sun, a large mounting structure can be used. The structure must be strong enough to withstand high winds; however solar clip can be incorporated into the design to allow full exposure during different times of the year.
